Therapeutic Touch -
Therapeutic Touch (T.T.) is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices. It is a consciously directed process of energy exchange during which the practitioner uses their hands as a focus to facilitate the healing process.
Therapeutic Touch was developed in the 1970’s through the pioneering work of Dolores Krieger, Ph.D., RN, a professor at New York University and Dora Kunz, a natural healer.
Therapeutic Touch is a scientifically based practice. Experimental research has been conducted at major hospital centers and universities by scientists in nursing and related health care fields. Some of this research has been funded by the National Institute of Health.
Therapeutic Touch is currently taught in over 35 countries and is practiced by an estimated 35,000 professionals in the United States, Canada and around the world.
Therapeutic Touch can be used alone or in conjunction with other modalities, including conventional medical treatment.
Therapeutic Touch -
Therapeutic Touch is based on the idea that human beings are energy in the form of a field. When you are healthy, the energy is freely flowing and balanced. In contrast, disease is the condition of an energy imbalance or disorder. The human energy field extends beyond the level of the skin and the Therapeutic Touch practitioner attunes to that energy with their hands.
The Therapeutic Touch treatment is a process that is always individualized and usually does not exceed 30 minutes. The technique is done with the recipient fully clothed while working within the energy field surrounding the physical body.
The practitioner will pass their hands over the body from head to toe and front
to back, holding them approximately 2-
You can be skeptical and Therapeutic Touch will still work, but you must be open to change. With a qualified practitioner, Therapeutic Touch is an exceptionally safe treatment.
Therapeutic Touch -
Therapeutic Touch promotes relaxation and a sense of comfort and well being. Research has shown that Therapeutic Touch is effective in decreasing anxiety, altering the perception of pain, and mobilizing one’s own healing energies to restore health, balance and order.
Therapeutic Touch can help facilitate the body’s natural healing processes, such as wound healing, mending fractures and fighting infections. Symptoms that are associated with stress are particularly sensitive to Therapeutic Touch. It is not unusual to see signs of tension being released during a treatment, such as physical relaxation, slowing of breathing, and decreased heart rate and blood pressure.
The response to a treatment is individualized. One may notice an immediate change or it may occur hours or even days later. One treatment may be sufficient. However, it is usually helpful to have regular treatments especially for chronic problems, as the response can be cumulative. Because Therapeutic Touch facilitates relaxation, it is useful in wellness and health maintenance.
